Young-onset colorectal cancer: earlier diagnoses or increasing disease burden?

   1575

Gastroenterology - A group of American scientists examined the relation between young-onset colorectal cancerincidence and the growing number of early diagnoses, to determine whether increasing incidence rates depend onbetter screening programs or on real increasing disease burden.

The data collected shows that after the 2008 financial crisis, colonoscopy rates in younger adults consistently decreased, while colorectal cancer incidence has continued to increase or remained stable. These findings suggest that there may be other factors contributing to young-onset colorectal cancer.
